Important Update from Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH)
Dear Colleague,
We are writing to ensure the process around referrals for private patients being transferred to the NHS is being adhered to, in line with guidelines relating to patient choice.
Following receipt of queries regarding the process for patients transferring to the NHS following private consultations and diagnostics, please be advised that in line with our access policy and national guidelines regarding patient choice it is requested that all referrals are made by the patients’ GP. This will mean that Referral Assessment Service (RAS) and Shropshire Orthopaedic Outreach Service (SOOS) will triage these referrals prior to forwarding them to secondary care.
Therefore if patients wish to transfer into the NHS, they will need to be referred back to their GP for onward referral. This will ensure all referrals follow the correct pathway and patients are offered choice in respect of where they receive treatment. This will not impact on patients regarding the 18 week pathway.
In order to ensure the process is as straight-forward as it can be, consultants at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hunt (RJAH) will be written to, to ensure their letters contain sufficient information relating to each patient, in order to assist GPs, and also RAS and SOOS with the triage of patients.
Regards,
Shropshire CCG and The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital
