The CCG has created a new post of GP Locum Champion and has accepted Dr Losa Shui to this position. Here is a brief summary by her of the position and her aims. We are keen to engage with her and explore better communication between the CCG and locums and encourage individual locums to make contact with her about any locum-related issues they may have.
I trained as a GP on the Shropshire VTS programme and qualified in June 2015. Since then I have worked as a salaried GP and as a partner. I am currently working as a locum GP, which offers more flexibility and fits in better with caring for my young children. I also work as an appraiser and with Shropdoc.
I would really like to use my experience to help, support and mentor newly qualified GPs in Shropshire with locum work. It is often difficult to get local information when starting out as a locum. My experience has given me an insight into the challenges faced by GP locums, it also puts me in a good position to look at solutions.
I would like to gain feedback from GP locums on their experience, what they feel are the barriers to locum work and what help and support they would like. I am very keen to discuss things further. Below is the WhatsApp group for GP Locums, which I really welcome anyone interested to join.
Thank you.
Losa Shui
