We are very pleased to announce our new Chair, Dr Serena Salamat, who has kindly agreed to take over the role as I step down. Serena is an experienced locum and has been working in Shropshire for a number of years now. She is both knowledgeable and enthusiastic and I know the group will be in safe hands. Please do bear with us as the organisation of the group (and this website) goes through some changes, and please do support her as she won’t be able to do the job on her own! Here she is in her own words.
Hi all,
Looking forward to getting to know you all much better.
I am Shropshire born and bred – I did the Shropshire VTS and then after being a salaried GP for a year I spent 5 years as a GP partner in Southern Herefordshire before moving to France for 18 months and starting my portfolio carer that locum lends itself so well to!I moved back to Shropshire 4.5 years ago and I am a very happy Shropshire GP locum, that loves the balance and flexibility that locum work can bring to a busy life, and I am still a massive advocate for becoming a GP!
I locum for the NHS a couple of days per week and spend the rest of my time as a Clinical Director for a digital medical tech firm or medical advising on an adhoc basis for a few different global health companies. I also have two children and I am an avid runner as some of you well know! 😊
We are very lucky to have this locum group and I hope we can continue to grow and shape it.
The locum and indeed the whole medical field has been changing rapidly over the last few years and I suspect we have even bigger changes to come. My main aims and initial focus for the group:
- To re-establish our engagement with all the local GP practices – I want to ensure that they know we are an active group and we are the preferred source of locum GPs and ensure any job opportunities are circulated through us.
- While the locum work is less, expand the practice list to Boundary GPs.
- To set up regular meetings for CPD as well as problem sharing. Ideally a couple per year face to face with the rest likely to be remote.
- I also wonder if people would find a WhatsApp group helpful whereby we can shoot questions surrounding obscure clinical cases or even just where do we send “x” these days.
- To develop relationships with the GP retention ICB leads.
Please feel free to get into contact and let me know any thoughts or ideas you have – it would be nice to all support and take this group forward together!
